Advent

As the waning days of autumn reach their darkest at the winter solstice, we yearn for the return of warmth and light. At this time of year many cultures celebrate holidays seeking to renew both the inner and outer light of our lives. There is a special mood of quiet contemplation that brings us into a deeper relationship with the world around us as manifest in the four kingdoms of nature – mineral, plant, animal and human.

The children at the school participate in an Advent Walk. They walk through a beautiful spiral pathway of pine boughs, lighting a candle and then setting it along the path to create a shining spiral of light. Parents are invited to attend this reverent and wondrous celebration. Additionally, in most classrooms, teachers celebrate with decorative greenery, seasonal songs and stories.

Many families observe Advent with a wreath in their own homes. In our time, the commercial demands of the season can easily consume our time and our thoughts. Quiet moments spent lighting candles, perhaps with some singing or verses, can bring the whole family closer together and help us enter the inner mood of the season.

Participating in the advent spiral is a wonderful opportunity to pause and reflect as we enter into the Holiday season.
This ceremony provides a moment in our busy winter schedules to connect with our inner light during these darkest days of the year.
It offers a precious moment to breath, reflect, and set our intentions for the season.

We hope all adults are able to join us for this Magical Ceremony!

(We will meet in the WSRF Sunroom and then quietly enter the auditorium together.)

School Tour/Class Observation Q&A

Walk through the grades and experience a glimpse of Waldorf education in action!

This is an opportunity for interested persons to take a look at the flow of Waldorf curriculum from one grade to the next (Grades 1-8 including a peek into our Preschool and Kindergarten) and ask any/all questions of a faculty member who hosts Q & A after the tour.

ADULTS only.
